Adding
Movements to BridScor
In
common with other scoring systems, BridScor can only score
movements that it knows about. Mitchell movements are, by their nature,
standard and it is unlikely that users will want to amend the Mitchell movements
which are already stored within the BridScor system. In
contrast, Howell movements are far from standard and it is possible to
construct a great number of different Howell Movements for any given number of
tables in play. BridScor comes with a good selection of
built-in Howell movements and it is probably sensible for most users to utilize
them. You can print movement cards for many of the built in movements by
downloading www.bridscor.fsnet.co.uk/howels.zip.This
is a zipped version of a Microsoft Excel file. If you want to use a movement
that BridScor doesn’t know about then you will
need to enter details of the movement into the system.
A
note of warning - If you are proposing to do any editing of the BridScor
Movements then it is very strongly
recommended, as a precaution, that you back up files
\BridScor\BridData\Bridge.Mdb and \BridScor\BridData\Bridge.Ldb
before you start. Another note of warning – you are very strongly recommended not to alter any of the movements that were
issued with your BridScor
system but, by all means feel free to add and amend new movements.
If
you are proposing to add extra movements then it is suggested that you proceed
as follows in order to understand the way that movements are stored within the
system. Movement 5G is used as an
example:
·
Load BridScor
·
Click on Tasks/Movements
·
Click on movement 5G
·
Click Print Movement and send the
resulting file to the printer
·
Now compare the printout of Movement 5G with the movement
cards shown at the bottom of this page (or better still print Movement 5G from
the downloaded Howell movement zip file www.bridscor.fsnet.co.uk/howels.zip)
and it should become apparent how movements are stored within BridScor. But see below for further
amplification
·
You should now be able to add a new movement to BridScor. Make sure that the new movement has a
different identifying letter from any of the letters currently in use for the
selected number of tables.
Movement 5G is explained below in
a little more detail:
Assuming
that we are talking about the 27 board variant of the movement then Set
1 is the set of boards 1-3, Set 2 is the set of
boards 4-6, Set 3 is the set of boards 7-9 etc.
Now
consider Set 1 (i.e. boards 1-3). If you look at the movement cards (below) you
can see that the first time the boards are played is by NS 10
v EW 1 (Table 1 Round
1), the second time it's by NS 6 v EW 8
(Table 5 Round 3),
the third time by NS 2 v EW 7 (Table 4 Round 5), then NS 5
v EW 4 (Table 3 Round
6) and finally NS 3 v EW 9 (Table 2 Round 8).
So,
for Set 1, the NS/EW combinations (in the correct order of play) are:
|
NS |
EW |
|
10 |
1 |
|
6 |
8 |
|
2 |
7 |
|
5 |
4 |
|
3 |
9 |
If
you now look at the BridScor printout from Movement 5G you
will see that this is indeed the data for Board Set 1. Line indicates the order in which boards are played.
Similarly,
for Set 2 (i.e. boards 4-6), the boards are played 5 times and the NS/EW
combinations (in the correct order of play) are:
|
NS |
EW |
|
10 |
2 |
|
7 |
9 |
|
3 |
8 |
|
6 |
5 |
|
4 |
1 |
And
so on up to set 9 (i.e. boards 25-27).
You
should now be able to see the pattern and be able, therefore, to add new
movements to BridScor.
Note:
There are two grids (i.e. tables of information) on the movements screen. You
should be aware that any amendments that you enter will be applied to the grid
highlighted in yellow. Clicking on either of the grids will cause it to become
the highlighted grid.
